Pregnancy and Hyperthyroidism

Abstract

|
The association of thyrotoxicosis and pregnancy has received little attention in the general medical literature. It is uncommon but important because the interaction of the two conditions may lead to serious consequences for the mother and for the child.
Author experienced 6 cases of pregnancy associated with hyperthyroidism from April, 1969 to August 31, 1975 at Ewha Womans University Hospital.
The diagnosis of hyperthyroidism during pregnancy were established by clinical findings and confirmed by laboratory tests.
They were treated with propylthiourecil & thyroid hormore. One abortion, other 5 pregnant woman continued normal pregnancy & delivered normal healthy babies after treatment.
